Developing a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice

Dissemination Strategies in Evidence-Based Practice

Evidence-based practices (EBP) are helpful only if end-users are aware of and apply them. Dissemination is a methodical process of sharing and spreading information. To ensure the research is effective, researchers have to publish their findings. A dissemination plan should be able to disseminate knowledge of research and decide what to report to your end-users or target population. Find out the most effective method or tool you should use, identify available tools that may help distribute, and evaluate the impact of your distribution strategy. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is a crucial requirement to provide the best and highest-quality treatment in the modern-day healthcare environment. The application of the evidence-based practice (EBP) to achieve the best outcomes is related to a nurse’s performance; therefore, it is necessary to improve and maximize a nurse’s performance (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2019). The evidence transmission enables nurses and practitioners to exchange their experiences and encourage using evidence-based practice (EBP).

Dissemination Strategies

Diffusion of evidence enables practitioners and nurses to facilitate and encourage using evidence-based practice in the clinical setting. The first aim is to convey evidence-based practice via electronic poster presentations. I will use the electronic posters placed in different places to attract a wider audience within the health organizations through electronic gadgets. The application of electronic signage is a spatial approach that is more cost-effective (Betz et al., 2019). Electronic poster boards are helpful in my healthcare business, and they are more efficient and convenient as caregivers get to view information frequently in comfortable places like the lunchroom. The second method of delivery will be a round table discussion. During meetings or huddles before the start of every shift, hospital units will be updated on the changes in evidence-based practice. Roundtable presentations help to discuss the matter more comprehensively, involving all healthcare workers and providing an opportunity to discuss the possibilities (Harper et al., 2019).

Least Inclined Dissemination Strategy

The least favored dissemination strategy would be online modules. Online modules are helpful if the user views them and is actively involved in Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Many training sessions targeted at nurses, e.g., ask whether they have read the material and present a yes or no button. Many nurses do not absorb the material or learn evidence-based information through the provided material, doing nothing more than marking a box to indicate that they have read the module.

Two Barriers and How to Overcome

There will be barriers in the process of a new development. The possible issue concerning electronic poster presentations is that there are no opportunities for the learners to ask questions. They are unable to be clearly defined. An electronic poster presentation, similar to the one presented in PowerPoint, has a limited educational content capacity (Betz et al., 2019). The second barrier to the diffusion strategy of the roundtable discussion is the limited representation of the clinical professionals in the EBP sessions. Lack of involvement in roundtable discussions impedes the dissemination of EBP content. To overcome these barriers, facilitate education, marketing, and advocacy of change by promoting evidence-based practices. Having enough time to allow clinical staff to attend roundtables, complete online courses, and create understandable electronic poster presentations will allow the delivery of the necessary information.

Providing nurses with the necessary knowledge and skills to regularly apply evidence-based practice would allow patients to receive the best care and, therefore, deliver better outcomes (Gallagher-Ford et al., 2019). Various distribution strategies will help reach medical experts and increase general awareness of the material.

The various strategies presented throughout the course that may be helpful in disseminating effective and widely cited EBP include: unit-level or organizational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Reflect on which type of dissemination strategy you might use to communicate EBP.
