Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities

I have seen much improvement in both confidence and clinical skills in a variety of primary care procedures during this practicum. I have gotten better at assessing patients, interviewing them more quickly, and reasoning about diagnoses. Now that I have more practice, I feel comfortable doing basic tasks like taking care of wounds, measuring peak flow, doing Mini-Mental Status Exams, and interpreting EKGs with little help. I also got more practice with suturing and incision and drainage (I&D) procedures, going from a beginner to a mostly confident level of skill (Blodgett et al., 2025). I have also gotten better at talking to patients and working with other professionals, which has helped me give better care that is focused on the patient. Despite ongoing learning needs in advanced diagnostic and invasive procedures, I have become more independent, methodical, and comfortable managing complex adult and geriatric conditions. This practicum has reinforced my readiness for the next stage of clinical development and for the responsibilities expected of an AGPCNP.

Several of my practicum goals were successfully achieved. I completed multiple Mini-Mental Status Exams, visual and auditory screenings, and chest X-ray interpretations with growing confidence. I also participated in suturing and I&D procedures, meeting my objectives for supervised experiences (Katz et al., 2020). These achievements strengthened both my technical and critical thinking skills. However, I did not fully meet my goal of independently performing punch biopsies or nail trephination due to limited case availability. To continue progressing, I plan to seek targeted opportunities in my next practicum that involve advanced dermatologic and minor surgical procedures under supervision. I also intend to refine my confidence in nasal packing, fluorescein eye staining, and prostate exams by engaging in simulation labs and requesting mentorship from preceptors skilled in these areas  (Peacock et al., 2022). By continuing structured practice and reflection, I aim to transition from competence under supervision to independent performance in complex AGPCNP procedures.

Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities

There is a saying that “people must look back in order to look forward.” As you transition out of this practicum and into a new one, you must “look back” at all that you have accomplished, taking stock of your skill and confidence levels before moving on.

For this Assignment, you return to your Week 1 Self-Assessment to gain a new perspective on what you need to do moving forward.

To prepare:

  • Review your completed AGACNP or AGPCNP Clinical Skills and Procedures Self-Assessment Form from Week 1, as well as the record of procedures you have performed throughout the practicum.

Assignment (1 page)

  • Perform a new self-assessment. Rate yourself on clinical skills, based on your experiences during this practicum. Summarize the results.
  • Explain which goals you accomplished and which you did not. If you did not achieve a particular goal, explain how you could continue to work on it, perhaps in your next practicum experience.
