Policy Briefing Note: Plastic Consumption and Waste Assignment

Instructions for Policy Briefing:

-write 3 pages for the policy briefing part and 1 page for the advocacy letter (double-spaced for everything following APA format)

1. Introduction and Summary of the Global Health Issue:
   1. Define the global health issue and explain why it is problematic.
   2. Analyze the social, political, economic (including aspects of neoliberalism), and environmental factors contributing to or influencing the issue.
   3. Discuss the health implications of the problem, focusing on:
      1. Its impact on global health equity/inequity, considering structural determinants and structural violence
      2. The differential experiences of this issue at local and global levels.
   4. Explore the effects of this global health issue on the nursing profession worldwide and the ensuing implications.
2. Discussion of Policies/Actions to Address the Issue:
   1. Identify actionable solutions/policies and the evidence supporting these approaches.
   2. Detail the roles of international, governmental, and non-governmental bodies in addressing the issue, explaining the rationale for each.
   3. Specify the responses required from provincial and national governments:
      1. Actions the Canadian government should undertake.
      2. Potential initiatives by provincial governments.
3. Policy/Advocacy Plan for CNA: (Canadian Nursing Association)
   1. Outline specific recommendations for actions the CNA (Canadian Nursing Association) should advise the Canadian government, the International Council of Nurses (ICN), and provincial nursing associations to take, including the reasons for these actions.
   2. Describe cooperative measures the CNA (Canadian Nursing Association)should take with provincial associations, including evidence supporting these recommendations and the consequences of inaction.

Instructions for Advocacy Letter:

In addition to your briefing note, your one-page advocacy letter from you as a nursing student should be addressed to a Canadian policy maker (e.g., PM, Premier, Minister of Health etc.) encouraging/advocating for a specific policy action related to your briefing note. The letter should be properly structured & organized and should clearly articulate the policy action sought, and why it is recommended. The letter should be addressed to the decision maker that is appropriate for the policy sought.

Formatting Requirements for Letter:

• Ensure the letter is properly formatted (addressed and organized appropriately)
