Benchmark – Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal – Topic 7

Policy, regulatory requirements, and economics influence care outcomes because of the complex and multifaceted relationship that exists among these aspects. Policy dictates standards and guidelines that healthcare providers should comply with to guarantee quality care, while regulatory requirements combine rules and regulations that healthcare organizations and providers must follow to meet expected quality care standards and reduce possible patient harm and adverse events (Bellot et al., 2024). Financial resources greatly influence the quality and degree of care based on the available resources.

Regulatory requirements and available financial resources will impact the proposed capstone project in various ways. Firstly, the regulatory elements will determine the type of technologies to integrate into the project and the evaluation of expected outcomes. Financial resources will determine the success of the project as they allow stakeholders to acquire relevant technologies and other requirements for project implementation and long-term sustainability (Diamond‐Caravella et al., 2022). Financial resources will also dictate the level of implementation of the proposed change project, such as procedures and other processes in the facility. These components will impact the care that the trauma center can offer by developing evidence-based practice (EBP) approaches, increasing the possibility of attaining better outcomes, and ensuring that patients receive the best care for wounds, leading to reduced rates of burn wound infections (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2022). Regulatory requirements related to reimbursement under the value-based purchase model will ensure that the facility implements practical interventions to prevent and control nosocomial infections among burn wound patients.

Reflecting on my experience at the practicum site, these relationships are practice and critical to quality care delivery. For instance, implementing the proposed changes will require regulatory compliance, lead to policy changes, and require certain resources. These aspects demonstrate that implementing any change project in nursing care practice requires project teams to consider policy frameworks, comply with regulatory mandates, and get sufficient resources from stakeholders (Bellot et al., 2024). The experience at my practicum site demonstrates the complex yet multifaceted relationship among policy, regulatory requirements, and economics when implementing change projects in nursing practice settings.

Assessment Description

Students are required to submit reflective journal entries at specific points throughout the course. These reflective narratives help students identify important learning events that happen throughout the course and the practicum.

Write a reflective journal (250-500 words) to outline how your experience at your practicum site related to the following reflective questions:

  • You have developed a list of resources needed for your project implementation in Topic 6. To complete this reflective journal, discuss with your preceptor the relationship between policy, regulatory requirements, and economics on care outcomes. Discuss how regulatory requirements and financial resources available will impact your project. How do you think this will impact the care that your practicum site will be able to provide?
  • Reflect on the relationship you discussed above as well as your practicum site experience. Provide an example from your practicum site of these relationships or discuss an example from your professional or personal experience.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected.
