NR 451 Week 7 Discussion: Personal, Professional, and Leadership Development

Personal development in nursing practice allows nurses to be up-to-date with the current and latest knowledge, approaches, technologies, and evidence to improve interpersonal skills. Personal development is also key to enhancing emotional intelligence and resilience. Personal development also helps one to stay focused and motivated in attaining their set goals, including managing stress and offering high-quality patient care (Vázquez-Calatayud et al., 2022). Consequently, my comprehensive plan for continued personal development entails focusing on personal life goals, knowing my strengths and areas to improve, and keeping track of my progress to make required changes. Further, I will regularly enhance my knowledge and skills by attending seminars and workshops, reading health-related journals and articles to learn the latest research findings to implement evidence-based practice, and ensuring personal improvement through mindfulness and stress management approaches to improve emotional wellness. I will also get feedback from colleagues and managers on areas I should improve, especially in interpersonal skills and abilities.

Professional development is essential for nurses as it ensures and improves competency and efficiency in care delivery and other roles. Professional development opens up avenues for care specialization and advancement (Mlambo et al., 2021). As such, my comprehensive plan to attain continued professional development focuses on advancing my education, certification, specialization, and further training. Secondly, I want to participate in professional nursing organizations to network with other professionals and learn from such experiences. I will engage in research to advance the nursing practice, and regularly update my portfolio to show these skills, experiences, and accomplishments.

Leadership development is important in nursing practice as it equips nurses with relevant skills to lead teams and care delivery, manage resources, inspire and motivate nurses to work, and help in making critical decisions, especially in dilemma situations (Ben et al., 2020). My comprehensive plan for continued leadership development will focus on going for leadership training programs to improve my present skills as a leader, having mentorship from advanced and experienced nurse leaders to attain insights into effective leadership practices, and assuming leadership roles in professional nursing organizations to attain and expand my practical experience. Lastly, reflective practice on leadership experience will help identify my strengths and areas for improvement.
