NUR 617 Therapeutic Modalities for Advanced Practice Nursing Case Study 1

The first case study presentation relates to a client seen during an individual therapy session

at clinical practicum.

Power Point Presentation will include a review of presenting demographic data (ensuring no violation of client personal identifiable information), clinical signs and symptoms, past medical and psychiatric history, social history, family history, substance misuse and previous treatment of psychiatric problems.

The student will use the DSM 5 diagnostic criteria to diagnose and identify differential diagnoses to consider.  Student should identify and briefly describe any assessment instruments used.

The student will discuss treatment plan to include therapy, medication management, and any additional interventions (e.g. ECT). The student will include a comprehensive discussion of the type of therapy, rationale of the therapy in this case, and alternative therapy considerations.  The student will include discussion of variation in treatment plan from standardized practice guidelines and evidence-based recommendations on possible practice changes.

The student will either prepare a notes page for each slide OR include an oral narrative for each slide. If needed, assistance in utilizing the audio process or accessing a note page is available. A minimum of 5 references, not including textbooks, are required for each case study. At a minimum, one reference must be a research article; all journal references to be peer reviewed and no older than 5 years. The case study presentations will be placed in the designated drop box Saturday 11:30 pm. Additionally each case study must be submitted to the next weeks discussion no later than Wednesday at 11:30 pm.
