Summary of strengths:
It is necessary to use a multidimensional approach while providing treatment for those who have mental illness. This involves the application of a variety of skills and competencies in order to evaluate and treat a wide range of patient groups. However, I have obtained most of these abilities and competencies via years of clinical practice. I am proficient in conducting comprehensive evaluations and making accurate diagnoses of patients by thoroughly assessing their medical history. I can devise an optimal treatment plan to enhance the patient’s mental well-being. Maintaining proper professional boundaries and demonstrating effective communication skills have allowed me to enhance interaction with both patients and members of interdisciplinary teams (Kverno & Frosch, 2022). I consistently prioritize providing comprehensive patient education concerning their mental health condition and effective self-care strategies after they depart from the clinic. |
Growth opportunities:
As a result of doing this self-evaluation, I have been able to determine the areas in which I need to improve to provide patients suffering from mental illnesses with treatment that is both safe and of high quality. Choosing the right diagnostic tool for patients with comorbidities, for example, continues to be a difficult task for me (Fraino & Selix, 2021). Identifying comorbidities, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and major depressive disorder, in patients with mental disorders is challenging due to the similarity of symptoms. Finally, I would want to improve my psychotherapy abilities so that my patients gain as much as possible even when no psychotherapeutic agents are employed. |
Write three to four (3–4) possible goals and objectives for this practicum experience. Ensure that they follow the SMART Strategy described in the Learning Resources.
1. Goal: To conduct autonomous assessments and diagnoses of at least two patients daily for six weeks. These patients will exhibit several mental diseases, and the diagnostic process will adhere to the criteria outlined in the DSM-V. The evaluations will be conducted without the need for supervision.
Objectives: a. Record the patient’s full medical history and note any relevant symptoms. b. Use the patient’s subjective and objective symptoms to list at least five possible diagnoses. c. Eliminate all other possible explanations and arrive at a conclusive diagnosis by using the diagnostic criteria from the DSM-V (Aggarwal et al., 2022).
2. Goal: To effectively identify and employ appropriate screening tools for diagnosing comorbid mental disorders in at least five patients daily over four weeks without supervision. Objectives: a. Provide a comprehensive diagnostic assessment for all mental conditions affecting the patient. b. Always use evidence-based practice screening tools to get accurate and trustworthy findings. c. Examine the outcomes of the selected screening tools and provide the patient with a diagnosis (Mangano et al., 2020).
3. Goal: To independently create the best possible treatment regimens for a minimum of two patients each day for the following four weeks, combining psychotropic drugs and psychotherapy approaches. Objectives a. Determine which clinical practice guideline will best assist in determining the patient’s most effective course of therapy. b. Have a conversation with the patient about the different treatment choices, taking into account the benefits and downsides of each one. c. Develop a comprehensive and efficacious selection of pharmaceuticals and psychotherapeutic interventions in collaboration with the patient to facilitate a favorable treatment outcome (Wesemann et al., 2022). |

Clinical Skills Self-Assessment
Before embarking on any professional or academic activity, it is important to understand the background, knowledge, and experience you bring to it. You might ask yourself, “What do I already know? What do I need to know? And what do I want to know?” This critical self-reflection is especially important for developing clinical skills, such as those for advanced practice nursing.
The PRAC 6635 Clinical Skills List and PRAC 6635 Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form, provided in the Learning Resources, can be used to celebrate your progress throughout your practicum and identify skills gaps. The list covers all necessary skills you should demonstrate during your practicum experience.PRAC 6635 WEEK 1 Clinical Skills Self-Assessment
For this Assignment, you assess where you are now in your clinical skill development and make plans for this practicum. Specifically, you will identify strengths and opportunities for improvement regarding the required practicum skills. In this practicum experience, when developing your goals and objectives, be sure to keep assessment and diagnostic reasoning in mind.
